Finding the intersection between personal interests and skills is essential for job engagement, a concept that guides Preston’s approach to talent management.

He believes that a strong understanding of the marriage between our innate curiosities and natural abilities is integral to our professional development.

Preston’s career path has been varied, including experience with moderating projects in diverse content areas from tobacco to protein powder. His recent pursuit of a Master’s Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology has provided him with an opportunity to stretch his moderating skills to new lengths by assisting with hiring and new employee onboarding at Ignite 360.

He continues to incorporate the methods learned from moderating focus groups into the hiring process at Ignite 360. “Applicant interviews are surprisingly similar to moderating,” says Preston. “The major difference being that you’re probing on professional qualifications instead of purchase intentions.”

How do you start a conversation with someone you just met? 

Shower them with a compliment.  As long as it’s sincere, it will never steer you wrong. And if delivered properly, it can be a very effective way to build positive rapport quickly.

What creative endeavor are you most proud of?

Anything photography-related.  A picture is worth 1,000 words, and can be an extremely rewarding creative experience, especially when you capture someone else at their best.  The most artistic and aesthetically pleasing photos are cherished for a lifetime, and it’s exciting to think about that each time a camera is picked up.
